Video Editing...An Experience

Updated: Jan 30

The finishing process: a satisfying and rewarding journey where a dull, wooden project

instantly bursts full of color, texture and beauty. This process signifies the end of a project's life as an incomplete idea and instantly transitions it into a creative focal point. As an avid woodworker, I am aware on just how satisfying this procedure can be, however, at what point must this process stop?

With so many rising makers entering the creative market, it is very easy for one's work to get lost in a digital sea of established listings and advertisements. We are entering a time where consumers constantly desire to be impressed and entertained. Therefore, simple photos and videos are becoming unnoticed and obsolete.

In my experience, the last smooth coat of lacquer isn't enough to differentiate yourself from others. Nowadays, with the overload of modern technology, one must become flexible in their efforts to be unique; and at Proton Woodworking we always strive to be unique.

My Experience:

My woodworking journey commenced almost 2 years ago, and within that time, I have created many beautiful and special products. As I began to shift my hobby into a business, I noticed that many of my listings were being overlooked. It was clear from the very beginning that the YouTube method of just simply pressing the "Publish" button on Etsy was not enough to make a sale.

Determined for more recognition, I sought out different ways to uniquely advertise my projects. Video editing/manipulation was one option that I constantly gravitated towards, so I did my research and decided what I had to do to really make this idea work. After patiently waiting for the necessary funds from my shop, I quickly purchased a video editing software and began a new chapter of my journey.

I decided to use one of my custom made mallets as my first test subject and after viewing a couple YouTube videos, I was finally able to recreate a boring shot into a beautiful and creative video.

Not only was I impressed with my efforts, but I was also proud. I finally got the proper recognition that I sought after. I was hooked.

With the success of my first video, hundreds of ideas raced through my head for other projects and advertisements.

After a year of developing my new skill, I have used this software as a tool for promotions, sales, announcements, product listings, pictures and entertainment. I even promote my editing services as one of the listings in my shop! What a great investment this was.

Conclusion:

To this day, I consider my video editing skills as part of my finishing process for any project, and to be able to push the bounds of creative woodworking even further is an amazing trait that combats laziness and inspires astonishment.

A dedicated artist will instinctively develop a desire to expand their ingenuity to new levels. As in all of life, failure will undoubtedly be encountered, but it is this failure that is laced with new moments of opportunity for your mind and imagination.

Thank you all for taking the time to read my latest blog and although being different is potentially frustrating, I truly do implore you to have fun and look deep within yourself to create something that is uniquely you. The world needs it.
